Position Overview
As a Specialist, Communications and Marketing at IM, you will play a key role in executing communications and marketing initiatives across multiple channels, including media relations, social media, blog and website publishing, and internal communications. Your work will help ensure that communications efforts are accurate, timely, and aligned, contributing directly to how IM shares its impact and engages with educators, partners, and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support media relations and press activities, including press release distribution, media tracking, and coordination of follow-up and interview logistics
- Manage social media scheduling, monitoring, and engagement while identifying opportunities to amplify content and respond to audience interactions
- Format, publish, and maintain blog and website content, ensuring quality, accuracy, accessibility, and on-time delivery
- Coordinate internal communications through Slack, email, and all-staff updates, and supporting internal campaigns and message distribution
- Maintain editorial calendars, templates, workflows, and trackers to ensure alignment, visibility, and timely execution across communications and marketing initiatives
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- 5 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital content publishing, social media management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple deadlines, workflows, approvals, and publishing timelines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Experience supporting communications execution across one or more of the following areas: media relations, social media, digital publishing, or internal communications.
- Strong computer skills with cloud-based systems and collaboration tools, especially Google Workspace applications, Asana, Slack, Zoom, and related tools used to support communications and marketing workflows.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple moving pieces while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and follow through on assignments with minimal direction and supervision.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, relationship-building, collaborative environment.
- Must reside in and be legally authorized to work in the USA.
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, education, or a related field
- Experience supporting publishing workflows for blogs, websites, email, or social media channels.
- Experience with PR management or media database tools.
- Experience supporting community management or audience engagement on social media.
- Experience working in a remote environment.
- Previous experience in the nonprofit, education, or K–12 space, including experience working in and/or serving K–12 school organizations.
